Better Outcomes is a Department of Health and Ageing initiative, designed to support GPs and disadvantaged patients in need of mental health care by subsidising the cost of treatment. The initiative enables GPs to confidently refer patients to accredited clinical psychologists contracted to MGPN at no cost to the patient.
This program is appropriate for patients who are unable to fund the cost of their own treatment. Melbourne General Practice Network has a number of psychologists employed and contracted to provide therapy to patients in this program. Better Outcomes supports a maximum of 12 sessions per calendar year.
Targeting those Affected by Homelessness and At-Risk
Over the past 8 months, MGPN has been working to ensure the free services provided under this program are directed to those affected by homelessness and deemed ‘at-risk’ due to co-morbidity issues, socio-economic status, age and access. This has resulted in the co-location of psychologists within services and centres supporting these clients, to ensure they are able to access these quality services.
